What the experience should be, proved with journeys and prototypes. The point is finding out whether it works while it is still cheap to be wrong about.

UI — climbing

Hero screens and exploration — where brand and experience first have to agree. A direction gets committed to here, and the ones not taken get written down rather than quietly lost.

The summit — the turn

Where it gets decided. The shape is settled — concrete enough to build from, bounded enough to finish — and what you carry down is that decision, not a longer list of options.

UI — descending

The real components: variations, states, the set the build actually uses. One hero screen is a claim; a system that still holds at the twentieth screen is the proof.

UX — descending

Beta and early testers on the real thing, rather than a prototype. This is where the assumptions the way up rested on either survive contact or get replaced.

Brand — descending

The website, the launch, the story — the product meeting its market. The test is whether the story told at the base still describes the thing that actually got built.
